Krongart BESS
The Krongart BESS is a proposed Battery Energy Storage System project with an approximate capacity of 400 MW located near Monbulla, South Australia.
The proposed Krongart BESS project has an estimated 400MW capacity and is located on cleared land on Old Kalangadoo-Penola Road, Monbulla. The BESS project is expected to assist in managing energy flow across the electricity grid, reduce price volatility and enhance grid reliability, while delivering affordable and reliable energy with fewer emissions.
TE H2 undertook community consultation for the project in the first half of 2026 in Kalangadoo and Nangwarry. The Krongart BESS project has been submitted for approval through the South Australian Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act 2023 (HRE Act) and is expected to commence construction by early 2028.
The proposed site is located in a rural area adjacent to the existing ElectraNet 275kV transmission line, and is approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Krongart, 10km southwest of Penola, and 35 kilometers northeast of Millicent.
